The Problem

Problem Statement

Busy professionals wanted to read more books but lacked time. Existing summary platforms offered one fixed length, so a reader with four minutes and a reader with twenty got the same page, and one of them always got the wrong thing.

Challenges

Challenges Faced

Creating an engaging reading experience with flexible durations and smart recommendations.

One length fits nobody

A single summary format meant readers with a short gap abandoned halfway and readers with time felt short-changed.

A growing library with no way to run it

Adding titles meant manual work that would not survive the catalogue getting larger.

Readers could not find their next book

A catalogue sorted only by newest leaves most of the library invisible.

Reading happens in the gaps

If a summary takes as long to open as it does to read, the five-minute session is already lost.

Solution

Our Solution

We built the whole platform, the Android and iOS apps, the web app, the Firebase backend and the CMS the team uses to publish summaries.

One source, three lengths

Each chapter is authored once and structured so the 5, 10 and 20-minute versions are complete reads rather than truncations of each other. model works.

Extensive Library

Hundreds of book summaries across multiple genres and categories.

A CMS the client runs without us

Publishing a new summary is an editorial task, not a release.

Flexible Reading Sessions

Choose between 5, 10, or 20-minute summaries based on available time.

Learnings

What We Learned

Key insights from building a book summary platform.

Flexibility Drives Engagement

Readers finish more summaries when they pick the length before the book, rather than abandoning a fixed-length read halfway.

Mobile-First for Learning

Users prefer consuming educational content on mobile during commutes and breaks.

The Backend Is The Product

For a content app, the publishing tools decide whether the library grows. The reading experience is what users see, but the CMS is what keeps it alive.

One Codebase, Two Stores

Shipping Android first and iOS later from the same React Native codebase let the product prove itself before the second launch cost anything.
